This honey garlic shrimp is the perfect weekday dinner. It’s quick and super simple to whip up. Plus, it packs in tons of delicious flavors with the 5 ingredient marinade that cooks down to a sticky-sweet honey-soy sauce with a punch of garlic and lemon tang.
Why You’ll Love Honey Garlic Shrimp
Quick & Easy. This marinade requires just 5 ingredients and no more than 5 minutes to whip together. The shrimp marinates for 20 minutes and take only 15 minutes of cooking to get from the frying pan to the table.
Flavorful. The marinade might be simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s bland. You’ve got saltiness from the soy sauce, sweetness from the honey, and tanginess from the lemon, which cooks down into a concentrated glaze.
Perfect Protein Pairing. This shrimp makes the perfect pairing for a variety of meals.
- Plate – pair the shrimp with your favorite grain, like miso brown rice, cilantro brown rice, or cauliflower rice.
- Grain Bowl – make it a bowl by tossing together grains, like brown rice, cauliflower rice, Israeli couscous, or quinoa with your choice of vegetables, like roasted broccoli, cauliflower, bell pepper, carrot, sugar snap peas, bok choy, and green onions.
- Wrap / Burrito – toss this shrimp in a whole wheat, spinach, or sun-dried tomato tortilla with brown rice, sauted veggies, green onion, and feta or mozzarella cheese.
How to Make Honey Garlic Shrimp
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, olive oil, lemon juice and garlic. Add the thawed shrimp to a medium bowl and cover with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
Once the shrimp has marinated the desired time, lightly mist a frying pan with cooking spray or a light drizzle of olive oil. Spoon the shrimp into the frying pan, leaving behind the majority of the marinade. Cook the shrimp on medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes, per side, or until pink and tender.
Be careful not to overcook the shrimp, as they will be rubbery and/or dry as a result. The size of shrimp you use will also impact the cook time. We used medium shrimp for this recipe.
Transfer the cooked shrimp from the pan to a bowl using a slotted spoon. Cover the bowl with foil to keep it warm.
Pour the marinade into the hot pan. Increase the heat to medium high and bring the marinade to a low boil. Cook the sauce for 6 to 8 minutes, or until it is reduced to a few tablespoons of thicker liquid. Add the shrimp back to the pan to warm for 1 to 2 minutes. Toss to coat the shrimp in the sauce. Remove from heat and serve. Garnish with parsley if desired.
How to Store and Reheat Shrimp
Storage: Shrimp is always best fresh, but if you have left overs it’s easy to store and reheat. Store remaining shrimp in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 7 days.
Reheating: When it comes to reheating, we prefer to use a frying pan to warm the shrimp, rather than the microwave. Lightly mist the frying pan with cooking spray. Add in the shrimp and warm over medium-low heat. It will take a little longer than using the microwave, but we’ve found the frying pan method prevents the shrimp from turning dry and rubbery.
