Ingredients for Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
- Yellow corn tortillas – these do the best in the air fryer and result in the desired crunchy texture.
- Avocado oil – high heat oil that keeps these chips light, but crispy.
- sea salt – a few cranks of sea salt from the salt shaker is all it takes to round out the flavor of these chips.
Quick Tips for Making Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
- Use yellow corn tortillas – we’ve tried just about every type of tortilla for this recipe and yellow corn tortillas were the winner by far! White corn and flour tortillas tended to stay soft, while yellow corn tortillas give this recipe a nice crunch.
- Use avocado oil – avocado oil is a healthy oil, plus it has a higher smoke point. We’ve found it works much better than olive oil in the air fryer.
- Shake the basket regularly – make sure you shake the basket every 2 to 3 minutes. This will prevent burning and ensure even cooking of all of the chips. If you don’t shake the basket, you’ll end up with some burnt chips, some perfect chips, and some soft, under cooked chips.
- Enjoy with dips – we definitely recommend pairing these chips with a variety of dips, from red salsa, salsa verde, mango salsa, pico de gallo, traditional guacamole, and our favorite edamame guacamole.

How to Make Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
Cut the tortillas into fourths or sixths. Add the cut chips to a small bowl and drizzle with avocado oil and sea salt. Toss well to coat.
Transfer the tortillas to the air fryer basket. Fry at 400°F for 8 minutes. Remove and shake the basket every 2 to 3 minutes to ensure even cooking.
Transfer the chips to a bowl and top with additional sea salt, if desired.
We recommend serving with guacamole, salsa, or dip of choice.
How to Store Air Fryer Tortilla Chips
Generally, when we make these tortilla chips there are no leftovers. The beauty of this recipe and using an air fryer is that you can tailor the recipe to scale up or scale down the proportions to fit your needs.
However, if you do find that you have leftovers, store in a Ziploc baggie or airtight container for 2 to 3 days. These chips will not stay crisp after about 1 day, so keep that in mind when making these chips. This recipe is really best for same day consumption.
